The Season of Advent
Worship this week will mark the first Sunday of Advent. Based on the verse of prophecy from Isaiah, our Advent series will be called “Name Calling”, as we focus each week on the four titles Jesus our Savior was given in Isaiah 9:6.
12/3/17 “Wonderful Counselor” What makes a counselor most effective? I believe that it’s the fact that they have experienced many of the same things that we’re going through; why we’re receiving the counseling. Jesus is not just our Counselor, He’s our Wonderful Counselor! The word for wonderful means "beyond understanding, too wonderful for words (miraculous, really)." Let’s dig into our understanding and trust in our Wonderful Counselor!
12/10/17 “Mighty God” When I was a little boy, I thought my dad was the biggest and strongest guy I knew. (Think of “oh yeah? Well my dad can beat up your dad!” said on many a playground.) God takes that concept and puts it on steroids to describe who He is for us. A mighty God who created the highest heavens and the tiniest of tiny things. In His might He gave us His Son Jesus as a perfect solution to our sins through His death on the Cross. That mighty action gives us eternal fellowship with Him by our faith in Jesus.
12/17/17 “Everlasting Father” God is THE Father. Maybe you had a father that was… less than ideal in that role. Instead of being turned off then, by the concept of our God as “Father,” we can look to Him as a perfect Father. One who cares for us; who provides for us; who loves us without condition; one who “will never leave us nor forsake us”; one who is beyond our human comprehension. Yes, He’s your Father!
12/24/17 “Prince of Peace” It seems to me like peace is a precious commodity in a present world desperately needing it more now than in any other time. A lack of peace has created all wars. A lack of peace leads to every crime ever committed. A lack of peace keeps us up at night. A lack of peace kills. We have real and eternal peace through Jesus our Prince of Peace. Peace that calms and cares and loves. Peace that carries us through the worst of times and the best also. Peace that will be perfected forever in the awesome place we get to call heaven for the rest of our eternal lives! This is also our Christmas Service this year!
Join us this upcoming Advent/Christmas season as we worship the One who was prophesied from the beginning of time, yet One who is eternally with us now also. 10:00 each Sunday at the ECEC building. 301 N. 6th St here in Saint Clair. I'm praying that you will be with us.
Advent peace to you all,
Pastor Joe Doenges
