Isn't the New Year an amazing time? It follows the infinite and intimate joy that God gives to us as we celebrate the birth of His precious Son Jesus, just a week or so before. And as that joy and true light continues to burn in our hearts, we have a "new beginning" of sorts that He also gives to us in the New Year. And rightly so, as He is the Author of all new beginnings: "He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new!' Then He said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'” (Revelation 21:5)
One of the things that we are doing here at Fishers Community Church this New Year is that of "getting back to basics"; "putting down deeper roots" as we intentionally dig deeper into the Word of God. Sometimes you'll hear it called "discipleship," or "becoming a fully committed follower of Christ." It's all really the same thing, as we are simply focusing on becoming what God wants us to be: His very own. Sounds simple, doesn't it? Yet there's so many things that we struggle with that keep us from that goal: The busyness of life, illnesses, relationships, jobs, ourselves, and the list goes on...
Where do we find the answers? In God's Word. I know that that sounds really overly simple too, but it's true. It's the Rock in our difficult times and our guide when we're looking for direction. It's our praise book when life is amazing. Let's jump in with both feet this coming year and make a re-commitment to God and one another that this year is going to be different - we're going to a church that is SERIOUS about being in God's Word. Keep watch for announcements for what's new and noteworthy on this front.
I want to apologize to all of you that I haven't done a good enough job in this area.
Yours in Christ,
FISHERS COMMUNITY CHURCH
