Church Is Better Than a Country Club
The Church is where we can meet Jesus just as we are. It is inclusive; for the messed up, mixed up, and even those who’ve tried but failed to clean up. It's not about a title, a membership to the local country club, or your relationship status. It's not about what kind of car you drive, the clothes you wear (though we hope you do wear clothes!) or your education. It's for all of us who desire to meet with God in the midst of real, genuine people who recognize that God is far more concerned with who we are becoming than the mistakes we've made.
At Fishers Community Church, we’re not called by God to create a comfortable environment for members to be pampered; we’re creating a place for people to join what God is doing to change lives. Discipleship starts here. And when we allow God to use us in the reaching, transforming, and sending pattern of discipleship amazing things will happen in us, and them!
The purpose of the Church isn’t to create a building with walls, but to introduce people to Jesus and help them find their place. We aim to be a church without walls. We don't try to comfortably hide away from everyone else, but run toward the messy and the hurting. After all, isn't that what He’s done with us (Romans 5:6-8)? Jesus came to earth to be with the sick who needed healing and the broken who needed mending (Matthew 9:11-13).
Jesus doesn't tell us to get our lives all straightened out and pretty on the outside before we can come to Him. He cares what’s really going on inside of us. Right now. Just as we are. When Jesus looks at His Church, He doesn't see a project to fix but people to love.
Being part of a local church means we can share life with others and together learn how to follow Jesus. It means we can love each other as we learn to walk this thing called daily faith in Christ. It also means we lovingly point out areas of our lives in which we haven’t yet given God control, so that we can learn of his redeeming grace.(Luke 19:1-10)
We can take ownership in what God has called our church to do by finding our place, giving, and being connected in relationships with others who follow Jesus.
Church is not a club designed to exclude, but people on a mission with Jesus. Our mission is reaching, transforming, and sending people to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). Jesus says to us, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." (Matthew 4:19)
