“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2 NLT
Praise God that we have an opportunity to start fresh every day, asking God to renew our hearts and minds in Jesus, the Word!
Many people who profess to be religious leaders and scholars know the Bible inside and out, but they have not met its Author. The reality is that the Christian faith is all about a Man, and this Man’s name is Jesus Christ.
When we read the Word and God starts to speak to us through it, then we can find true intimacy. God will reassure us and give us direction. We will begin to notice His influence in every area of our life and in every decision we ask Him to help us make. There is an overwhelming abundance of peace for the child of God that sits everyday in the presence of Jesus to pray and read the Word.
Zacchaeus heard about Jesus and climbed a tree so he could be closer to him and see for himself who Jesus was. He wasn’t going to let the crowds or his short stature (we are told Zacchaeus was a small man) get in the way of being in Jesus’ presence. After hearing Jesus’ words he said...
“I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.””
Luke 19:8-10 NLT
Do we run to Jesus in this same way? Do we make sure that nothing will stand between our time with Jesus in God’s Word and in prayer? Do we hunger after the things of God, not letting busy schedules, distractions, the noise of the world, and sin get in the way?
In Acts 4:13 we read, “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.” NIV
That is the bottom line.
What the world is looking for is not you and me, but Jesus Christ. The degree to which Jesus is involved in your life determines how effective you will be in kingdom work. Spend time with God. Have intimate times with the Lord, and watch your life and the lives of those around you change.
