"re-Calibrate" Sermon Series
July 5 - July 19, 2015
We will be starting a new sermon series in July on the… well, on the place that we are right now as a Church, and where God wants us to be. It’s critical, I believe, to constantly be “checking the compass”, as to how a church is doing with respect to its goals and dreams and visions that God has placed on our hearts.
So we’re going to review where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going as a body of believers in Jesus Christ.
We are one body that is united in our overall goal of sharing Christ with our area and beyond, but also one that brings differing gifts and talents and interests in doing so.
The overarching need is to see ourselves as united (with those differences) in THE GOAL/VISION God has given us. Think of Matthew 4:19, where Jesus gives us the challenge and command to “Follow (Him) and be Fishers of men.” Do we all fish for the same kind of fish? Do we all use the same equipment? Of course not, but the goal remains the same, and that is to be united with one another in being Fishers of folks with the message of Jesus’ love for them. As John Piper writes: “Christian unity in the New Testament gets its goodness from a combination of its source, its views, its affections and its aims.” He’s saying that these are the “non-negotiables” in our striving to save souls from hell.
Have we always been on course doing this? Of course not. Even the most sophisticated airplane needs the latest computers to keep it focused to its destination. As a congregation of fallible people who are balancing work and family and church and many other things, it’s somewhat natural that we get a few degrees off course. During this interactive sermon series we will identify our course, and through prayer and worship and the Word we'll allow the Spirit to put us back on our intended journey. Join us as we get honest with one another and with God as we humble ourselves before Him to let Him do some re-calibrating of His flock here at Fishers.
