The "word" relationship is not easily found in the Bible. But the "Word" (the Bible) is all about God's relationship that he deeply desires to have with us, and the love that He has for us right from the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation.
John 1:1-3 "in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of man."
It's all about a relationship! He walked this earth as God-man. He showed us the importance of having personal relationships; His Apostles, the woman at the well, Lazarus, just to mention a few. The Apostle John, said to be the favored one, knew this relationship and he so expressed it throughout the Book of John. John 3:16 "God so love the world, that He gave His only Son!"
Martin Luther struggled many years but through reading God's Word and by the grace of God, he too found and understood what this personal relationship with Christ was. In the Treatise on Christian Liberty he describes it most beautifully: "Christian lives not in himself, but in Christ and in his neighbor. Otherwise he is not a Christian. He lives in Christ through faith, in his neighbor through love. By faith he is caught up beyond himself into God. By love he descends beneath himself into his neighbor. Yet he always remains in God and in His love."
This relationship is symbolized in the Cross. Receiving God’s love and in return loving God.
“We love him, because he first loved us.” – 1 John 4:19
Reaching out with our arms spread wide to love our neighbor! “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” 1 John 15:12
By the grace of God, when we open the doors to Fishers Community Church, let us meet the people that the Holy Spirit brings to us and let us walk together on our journey, experiencing the peace that comes with having a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. By the grace of God, as we grow in our faith, let us want to continue to reach out and share our story with others and continue to use our time, talents, and treasures to glorify God. This is the "relationship!"
Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
To God be the glory in all we do!
